ABOUT JUST BLACK
What do artists show when they can show…ANYTHING?
This January and February, Just Black? a community curated art show by local Black artists comes to SMUSH. Just Black? is more than the simple inquiry of how you take your coffee. It is the reframing of diversity in art spaces, a form of reparation, and an amplification of artists from ALL Black identities. Witness over 40 self-curated works from local Black artists. Featuring Artistic Afro, Gnarly Casual, Kris Charlery, Azzie Contreras, Samuel Edme, Denise Ellison, Breanna Felix, Brian Fraser, Yazmine Graham, Ibn, KâzéJewelz, Aurelia Luciano, Rayna Lucier, Myeisha Miller, Ricardo Raphael, Imani Starr, & Linsey Thezard.
Just Black? is directed by SMUSH’s Aurelia Luciano, and is an evolution of SMUSH’s previous community curated art shows, Hangups and Hangups II.
